Bancheny Monastery

Тhe past of many Ukrainian monasteries we can learn by historians and archival documents, the creation of Bancheny Holy Ascension Monastery history we can see with our own eyes. One of the newest complexes is located near the village Bancheny, 24 km from Chernovtsy.

October 28, 1994 foundation laying of the monastery was consecrated. In early December 1996 the UOC Holy Synod blessed the opening of the complex. And less than 2 years - May 28, 1998 Kiev and All Ukraine Blessed Metropolitan Volodymyr consecrated the complex. The monastery dimension is staggering. There are six churches and a cell. By the way, the monastery dome may be seen even from the very Chernovtsy. A Gate Bell tower is designed like a bell tower in St. Sophia Cathedral in Kiev and is half higher than St. Sophia Belltower.

Since the complex is functioning, then it has its own rules. Strangers can visit it only once a year on the Transfiguration religious holiday. But the monastery community services daily divine. Taking into account hat most novices speak Romanian language, the services are carried out mainly in that language. Among the relics, which are located in the monastery, there is a particle of the True Cross, relics of St. Seraphim of Sarov, St. Barbara and many other saints.

Holy Trinity Cathedra of Bancheny Ascension Monastery is one of the largest Christian churches in Eastern Europe. Its dimensions impress - height is 56 meters, length - 60 meters, width - 40 meters. Thousands of believers had been toiling at its construction during a period of five years. Everybody helped as he could – financially and using manual labor. 60 artists painted the temple. Most frescoes are made according to the old technology. It should be noted that there are 7 altars in the temple. 3 of them are located on the ground floor and another 4 on the second floor and in the cave.
