Tourist route: "Cherkassy Golden Horseshoe"

In Korsun-Shevchekivsky. UkraineThe glorious Cossack past and significant historic figures of the region inspired tourist guides of Cherkassy region to create a tourist route: "Cherkassy Golden Horseshoe": Cherkassy-Chyhyryn-Kaniv-Korsun-Uman-Zvenygorodka-Kamianka-Talne. Cherkassy is a beautiful Ukrainian city on the Dnieper with the population of 350 thousand people. It is famous for its beauty, wonderful views and was well known in Soviet Union for its sanatoriums. You can read here abut Cherkassy. The next point of tourist route "Cherkassy Golden Horseshoe" is Chyhyryn a town where, in the 17th century, the residence of Bohdan Khmelnytsky was located. Now the monument to the Hetman stands on Zamkova Hill, and in the museum named after him you can see some of his personal belongings as well as Cossacks related exhibits.

Further, the route takes you to Subotiv village, which once belonged to Khmelnytsky 's father, Mykhailo. At the end of the 1640s. the Hetman built here a palace-fortress that became one of his residences. And, in - 1657 he was buried in Subotiv: Illinska Church which he built, became a shrine to the Hetman. You can see the picture of this church at the 5hryvnas banknotes.

Korsun-Shevchekivsky.  UkraineNot far from Subotiv located Buda village, where a thousand-year-old oak grows. Legend says that if you go around th is oak three ti mes and make a wish, it will certainly come true. Subotiv and Buda belong to the territory of natural reserve Kholodnyi Yar, a forest preserve area of over 7000 hectares. 

The Cherkassy region is famous first of all as the motherland of Ukrainian genius, poet and artist Taras Shevchenko. He was born here in village Moryntsi and spend here his childhood. The poet dedicated a significant part of his works to this region. In accordance to his “Will” Taras Shevchenko was buried in Kaniv which became sacred to all Ukrainians. Now on the top of the hill, abrupt steps lead to the bronze Kobzar watching over the Dnipro ... There is also ''Taras' Bright Room" in Kaniv, the first museum dedicated to Shevchenko, founded by his friends and admirers in 1884. Kaniv is one of the main places of tourist route "Cherkassy Golden Horseshoe".

Another point of tourist route "Cherkassy Golden Horseshoe" is Korsun-Shevchenkivsky city located in 80 kilometers from Cherkassy and dating from 1032. Here, on the granite banks of the Ros' river, is a beautiful neo-gothic manor of the Poniatovski-Lopukhiny princes, built in the 18th century. The city is also famous for Operation Korsun-Shevchenkivsk from the beginning of 1944: one of the largest battles of the Second World War.

There is a place in the Cherkassy region which should be seen a place where nature and people created a real fairy tale. It is the Sofievka (or "Sofiyivka") Arboretum in the town of Uman, often compared to the Florentine Balbi gardens and Versailles.
History of Kamianka connected with activity of Decapbrists and with names of Pushkin, Chaikovskiy and other famous people. Today tourists can visit a National historic-cultural preserve which unites several Sofiyivka Park. Ukrainemuseums, expositions, architectural memorials, buildings and a park founded in 18th century.

The last point of tourist route "Cherkassy Golden Horseshoe" Talne is famous for its castle which was built by Shuvalow. Talne castle is also called hunting palace because it has no fortification but surrounded with wonderful park and forest.
