Autonomous Republic of Crimea

Embankment of YaltaAutonomous Republic of Crimea, ARC - an administrative unit of Ukraine, located in the greater part of the peninsula of Crimea.  
 
The structure of the ARC does not include the south-west of the peninsula, which belongs to Sevastopol city council and is unit of national submission, and the northern half of Arabatskaya spit, which is a part of the Kherson region.  
 
Balaklava bay. CrimeaOctober 18, 1921 on part of Tauride province there was formed Crimean ASSR. June 30, 1945 it was transformed into the Crimean region of the RSFSR. In 1948, the city of Sevastopol became a status of the city of republican value. Since 1954 the region belonged the USSR.  
 
February 12, 1991 there was declared the Crimean ASSR of Ukraine, 1992 - Republic of Crimea in Ukraine. Since 1996 - under its current name.  
 
The closest legal sources, which allow to determine the transfer of sovereignty on the territory of Sevastopol (and Crimea) in accordance with international standards of that time are Kuchuk Kaynarca agreement dated 10 July 1774, the Act of Accession of the Crimea and the Kuban region to Russia in 1783 and the Treaty of Jassy between Russia and Fountains in SevastopolTurkey on 29 December 1791.  
 
Feb. 19, 1954 Presidium of Supreme Soviet of the USSR adopted a decree: "In consideration of the territorial unity and commonality of the USSR economy with the Crimea, to convey the Crimean region of RSFSR to USSR". The Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR was not affirmed as required by federal and republican constitutions.
