The car route Dnepropetrovsk — Stariye Kodaki — Volosskoye — Solenoye is planned for a 1 day trip. During the trip you will see the ruins of the Rzeczpospolita fortress, the sign of the mile of Catherine the Great and the mansion of the XIX century.
Route starting point: Dnepropetrovsk
Route distance: 40 km (one way)
Duration of the route: 1 day
The first point of our trip is the village of Stariye Kodaki that is only 5 km away from Dnepropetrovsk via the Zaporozhye highway in the direction of the airport. Not reaching the airport parking zone turn left, after the sign «Stariye Kodaki» turn right at the first crossing on the dirt road, and then on to the first fork.
Here you will find a commemorative sign of the «Ruins of the Kodak Fortress».

In the XVI century here was the border of the then existing state Rzeczpospolita (Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth). And for the protection of its borders this fortress had been built. The main task of the fortress was not to allow the escape of runaway slaves to the free territory of the Zaporizhian Sich as well as the protection of the estates of the Polish gentry. The fortress was destroyed after the Battle of Poltava. Now all that is left from the building are the outlines and the most attractive point is the incredible scenery: a stone spit and a huge artificial lake that appeared in place of a quarry.
The next stop is the mile of Catherine the Great in the village of Volosskoye.

The village of Volosskoye is in the Dnepropetrovsk district of the Dnepropetrovsk region and is located in 25 km from Dnepropetrovsk.
After exiting Dnepropetrovsk use the Zaporozhye highway and after the Bratskoye village trun left.
The main landmark of the village is the original road sign that stood there since the XVIII century. Such signs were used to mark the route pass of the Empress Catherine the II. Today in Ukraine remain only a few of such signs.
The third point is the village Solenoe in the Dnepropetrovsk region, located 40 km away from Dnepropetrovsk.

To get to the village you must take the Zaporozhey highway through the villages of Antonovka and Vasilyevka, then at the road fork turn left.
The village Solenoye appeared in the XIX century was part of the domain of the landlord Engelhard (the one to whom Shevchenko served in childhood). Only a small part of the estate buildings has survived up to today. It was constructed by the project of the then known Bergman brothers.
We return to Dnepropetrovsk by the same way.
